Riley has been down in the dumps ever since Kellen dumped her. And for once she has decided she's not going to date or even have sex except for the moon heat. I was disappointed by this. I enjoyed reading about her crazy adventures, since they've been tone down since the first book. At one point I just wanted to yell at Riley and tell her get over it. Especially once she realized there was no way he's her soul mate. Just get out there and have fun, you're only young once. And with the job she has, her life is put on the line everyday.
But Riley doesn't have much time to dwell on her romantic issues. She's thrown into two cases in this book. There's seems to be a cat shifter running around killing. But turns out to be an old supernatural creature that made a cat able to turn into different people after eating them, and killing those who she believes had wrong her master. Through this storyline Riley had ran back into Quinn. Why couldn't he stay gone a little bit longer? I hated the way he tried to change and control Riley. Yes we have been told over and over Riley has an unbelievable strong connection to him. But Riley still believes her wolf soul mate is out there, and when she meets him where would that leave Quinn? During the time apart Riley wasn't the only one missing the other. Apparently Quinn was hurting too. But my problem with their reunion is that she just falls right back into his arms without even seeing if or how he has changed.
The second case deals with what seems like an invisible vampire. Riley sure does have her work cut out for her. But it's been killing classmates of it from the year he was murder. And who happens to be one of those classmates? Liander. And when he is hurt badly and kidnapped things don't look good and Rhoan goes off. Which was completely heartbreaking. I think if Liander actually died I would stop reading the series. These two are my favorites. And half the time I think I keep reading the books for them.
Of course Dia and her daughter makes an appearance. And she asks Riley that since she is half vampire and half wolf she has two souls. So what makes her think she only has one soul mate? The only problem with this logic is Rhoan is also half vampire half wolf and he has found his wolf soul mate. And it was mentioned I believe in the first book that Rhoan has more vampire traits than wolf, and Riley more wolf than vampire. So that doesn't make sense to me at all. Just excuses to have Riley with a control freak who wants to change her.
Overall I loved this book. Now if there was no Quinn in the book it would be perfect.
